Solved it! Well at least in my mind I solved it. The mystery I wondered about was why so they call it fat wood?
This photo clearly shows a piece of wood, with what looks to me like solidified rendered fat. Fat wood can be the key to cold wet weather. I actually have some industrial quality fat wood in the form of cured pieces of 4×4 and 2×4 lumber that is super heavy due to the cured sap in them. The lumber was found in a scrap pile. Probably because it is harder than hell to do anything with it but burn it.
