Collier’s Guide to Night Photography in the Great Outdoors

“This book is intended for those who already have a good understanding of how to use a digital SLR camera. You should know how to focus manually, how to get a proper exposure when shooting in manual mode, and how to view and interpret the histogram. I won’t spend a lot of time explaining the basics, as there are a lot of books that cover this. I want to focus on the things that are unique to shooting at night and that are not easy to learn elsewhere.”

Quote from introduction on page 2.

This is hands down the best book I’ve read so far in the photography genre. It took me quite a while to read this one and I plan on reading it again. It is not so advanced that someone who knows their camera well, can find this an asset to their bookshelf for reference. It is a paperback so it’s not that expensive. I was lucky enough to get it over the holidays and just finished.

This book covers cameras and lenses, and other equipment, software, web sites, apps, composition, effects and much more. I found the book really easy to read, in a sense that it was worded well. To the technical part of the book, I am still working on it’s comprehension. To anyone that wants to sharpen their night photography, get into night photography, capture astrophotography then add this book to your collection.
