Review of two Apps for Photography

I occasion I will review mobile applications that can be used for photography.  In this article I will be reviewing two applications, Photo Time and Moon Phase Calculator.

Photo Time – by Instasoft v 1.32

Photo Time – by Instasoft is an application that breaks down the lighting of any day by location.  I downloaded Photo Time on my Android phone and installed version 1.32.  This app is pretty straight forward to use.  You open it, select the location you want and the day you want info for and poof, it is there.

In the settings you can customize your name it displays and the time format  to either 12 or 24 hour.  Some of the times it displays are the blue hour for morning and evening, the golden hour for morning and evening, sunrise, sunset and solar noon.  If you are looking for something that can do more, then keep looking.  If you are out shooting and have connectivity, you can use this add to help determine your lighting.

  • This is a free app that only asks permission to access your devices location.
  • Takes up 14 MB of storage space.
  • Can’t be run from SD card.
  • Needs connectivity to check times.
Moon Phase Calculator – by Manas v 1.1

Moon Phase Calculator – by Manas is exactly what it sounds like. I downloaded the Moon Phase Calculator on my Android phone and installed version 1.1.  The results are based on your local time.  When you open the app it shows what the moon phase is at that time.  You can also pick any date and time of day to see the moon phase at that time.

So I suppose if you knew the exact date and time for a shoot you could find of what the moon phase will be.  I don’t see myself using this app, when the phase of the moon doesn’t affect any of my photos as of yet.  I am sure there are better apps out there that can handle this task.  If this is something that you need for other reasons, give it a whirl.

  • This is a free app that doesn’t ask for any permissions.
  • Takes up 8 MB of storage space.
  • Can’t be run from SD card.
  • Doesn’t need connectivity.
